It's That Time Again For Hurricane Season
2020 has been an interesting year thus far.
But, even with everything going on in the world around us, we can't loose sight of the eventualities of the seasons. In this case, June means the beginning of hurricane season here in Maine.
So far it has been calm, but predictions are for an active season, so being prepared is important.
Last year we put together a comprehensive overview of hurricanes and what you can do to prepare. You can read that first post here.
Basically hurricanes are broken down into 5 categories depending upon the wind velocity of the storm. Those categories are:
- Category 1 will have winds ranging from 74 to 95 mph
- Category 2 will have winds ranging from 96 to 110 mph
- Category 3 will have winds ranging from 111 to 130 mph
- Category 4 will have winds ranging from 131 to 155 mph
- Category 5 will be anything with winds greater than 155 mph
Mainers are no strangers to difficult weather. So we realize that preparedness is the key to surviving whatever Mother Nature decides to throw our way.
